DISINFECTION AND STERILISATION OF COSMETIC INSTRUMENTS

Metal tools should be decontaminated before use.

Stages of manicure/pedicure tools treatment:

• washing
• disinfection
• sterilisation

After the service, all instruments are considered contaminated and must undergo a new sterilization process. This procedure is also necessary before working with new tools.

After use, the instruments must be cleaned of organic residues and varnish or acrylic residues and placed in an ultrasonic cleaner with a cleaning and disinfecting solution.

When selecting disinfectants, it is important to ensure a maximum broad spectrum of action against enveloped and septate viruses, fungi and yeasts, bacillus and mycobacteria.

When disinfecting, strictly observe the preparation instructions for the chosen preparation! Failure to observe the preparation, exposure time, temperature and concentration may result in corrosion and loss of cutting properties. Instruments that are already rusty or show signs of corrosion should be derusted or discarded. Do not disinfect rusty and non-rusted instruments in the same bath.

After the disinfection procedure, the instruments must be rinsed with water to remove any residual disinfectant solution. After rinsing, the instruments should be absolutely dried, e.g. with a dust-free towel, and then the moving parts should be oiled with medical paraffin. Metal instruments are suitable for high-temperature sterilisation in a type B autoclave.

Instruments should be sterilized in a sterile barrier (paper-foil bags or sleeves) to preserve sterility after sterilization and the ability to store them. Instruments should be sterilized only in functioning autoclaves with a valid inspection and only using demineralized or distilled water of purity specified by the autoclave manufacturer. Using water of poor quality may cause corrosion and damage to the tool.

We do not recommend the use of ball sterilizers. It may cause mechanical damage and lack of sterility of the tools. Improper washing or disinfecting of instruments after use or skipping one of the steps significantly reduces the effectiveness of sterilization and may cause corrosion and rusting.

During instrument processing it is important to:

• Use personal protective equipment (headgear, mask, long rubber gloves, waterproof apron);
• Do not use brass/copper brushes or metal cleaning sponges, etc.
• Do not use alcohol-based products
• Temperature of disinfectant solution not more than 40C
• Do not use chlorinated water to prepare the disinfecting solution or to rinse the instruments
